Balanced Nutrition: A Deep Dive

Nutrition put simply is about eating a regular, balanced diet. Maintaining good nutrition is important to help fuel your body but everyone does not have access to the food they need to thrive. Nutrition security is defined as “having consistent access to healthy, safe, affordable foods essential to optimal health and well-being.” We are diving into what balanced nutrition means so we can better serve our neighbors and help them strive towards nutrition security.

Before we get started we are going to ask you a few questions. There are no “right” answers here, it is strictly to gauge you comfort and knowledge with nutrition. We will ask the same questions at the end of the course to see what you have learned.

Course Objectives

  1. Learn about MyPlate and the five essential food groups.
  2. Explore the concept of a balanced diet and its importance.
  3. Identify what foods contain carbohydrates, proteins, and fats and their role in the body.
  4. Explore the world of micronutrients, including vitamins and minerals.
  5. Learn how to read and interpret nutrition labels effectively.
  6. Explore the LCFB “F2E” designation to make nutritious foods available in your pantry.

The course is linear, and you will need to complete everything in each lesson before it allows you to move on using the next lesson button.
